Last weekend I got quite a surprise when I looked out of the window into the back garden. A green woodpecker digging ants out of the garden lawn.

The bird stayed in the garden for quite a long time so I also recorded a few videos of the digging and feeding. Here’s the best one.

I’ve been trying to get a decent photo of a green woodpecker for a long time, but I normally only see them when they suddenly appear out of the long grass and fly away. So seeing one up close on the garden lawn, and for long enough to make a video of it, was amazing!
